Description

Lavender essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the dried lavender plant, Lavandula angustifolia.

Benefits

Some studies have found lavender essential oil reduces crying in infants, helps with sleep, reduces anxiety, can reduce menstrual pain, and has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It has also been found to aid in wound healing, help with arthritis pain, and may even help with psoriasis. Many are fond of its earthy, floral aroma. (While studies have found lavender essential oil to have many benefits, please use lavender oil judiciously and properly diluted. All essential oils are potent and concentrated substances. Any medicinal use should be done under the supervision of a qualified medical professional.)

Considerations

• Skin Sensitization Overuse of lavender essential oil (especially at high concentrations) can induce sensitization, where one develops an allergy to the herb. • Skin Irritation Lavender essential oil, especially if it has oxidized, can cause skin irritation in some individuals. See Notes
